Brent Spiner s-a nascut si a crescut in Houston, Texas. A fost atras de actori inca din stadiul primar la scoala indrumat de catre dramatica lui profesoara Cecil Picket, care a dat startul unui grup remarcabil de actori aspiranti sau regizori cu precadere mentionand pe Randy Quaid, Dennis Quaid, Thomas Schlamme, Trey Wilson, dar si Cindy Pickett care mai tarziu au reusit sa se afirme la Hollywood.
Dupa absolvire Spiner si-a urmat mentorul la Universitatea din Houston ca si in alte colegii locale, demarandu-si cariera de actor la teatru (Teatrul Muzical al Houstonului), si in filmul “My Sweet Charlie” (Dragul meu, Charlie) care s-a filmat in Texas. Dupa aceea Spiner s-a indreptat catre New York jucand in cateva productii din cadrul Broadway si nu numai aici mentionand: “A History Of The American Film” (O Istorie A Filmului American), ” Film Sunday In The Park With George” (Film Duminica in Parc cu George), “Big River” (Marele rau), “The Three Musketeers” (Cei Trei Muschetari), participand si la Festivalul Shakespeare din New York. In timp ce la New York a avut parte de un rol secundar in filmul lui Woody Allen “Stardust Memories” a jucat in filmul independent “Rent Control” si a avut un rol in mini-seria “The Dain Curse”.
Dupa cateva roluri jucate in filmele de la TV ca “Robert Kennedy and His Times”, ” Crime of Innocence”, “Manhunt for Claude Dallas”, “Familly Sins”, Spiner a intrat in posesia rolului pentru care este cel mai cunoscut si anume al androidului Data din Star Trek-Generatia Urmatoare.
Dupa 7 ani in care s-a tot plimbat pe la diferite televiziuni a aparut si in celelalte productii Star Trek: First Contact, Insurrection, si Nemesis in care a fost si co-scenarist. S-a intors ulterior inapoi pe Broadway jucand rolul lui John Adams in “Roundabout revial” pentru care a fost nominalizat la un premiu Drama Desk la categoria “Cel mai bun actor intr-un film muzical”.
